Craig A. Talmage, PhD

Craig A. Talmage, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Co-Chair of Business Management & Entrepreneurship at Hobart & William Smith Colleges. His research explores the craft beverage industry, with a particular emphasis on breweries and their role in local economic development and community building. Craig examines how breweries function as "third places," fostering social connections and contributing to a region's identity. His work integrates elements of neolocalism and sustainable entrepreneurship, highlighting the ethical dimensions of the craft beverage sector. At HWS, Craig integrates this research into his teaching, focusing on sustainable ventures and the positive impact of the craft beverage industry on regional development. He is actively engaged in the Bozzuto Center for Entrepreneurship, the Centennial Center, and the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, mentoring students and collaborating with local businesses. Additionally, Craig chairs the City of Geneva’s Local Development Corporation, supporting local initiatives for sustainable economic growth.
